31 Nights of Horror IV, Night 19: Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1992)
In 1992, five years before Sarah Michelle Gellar became the iconic vampire slayer we all know and love, Josh Whedon wrote a movie script that aimed to put a stake in the “ditzy blonde victim” archetype prevalent in the horror genre. Though Whedon was disappointed in how the movie turned out, I am super stoked that I get to revisit some rad 90s lingo while watching Hilary Swank act like a bimbo and Kristi Swanson kick ass in a horrendous 90s homecoming dress and a leather jacket (white tights?!?). If 90s “Grrrrrl Power” isn’t enough reason to watch, Ben Affleck also has a super short cameo as a rival team’s basketball player in this bodacious 90s horror comedy that paved the way for the WB’s “Buffy”.
